"I sometimes wonder if two thirds of the world is covered in red carpet."-Prince Charles
By the time you read this, the awards will have been handed out and the red carpet rolled up but the dress discussion will still be in full force. (Talking about pretty dresses really helps a girl get through Monday morning). So, before I can analyze, change my mind or get influenced by Joan Rivers, here are the Pink Rickshaw top picks for best dressed at this year's Academy Awards. Interestingly, the dresses are all in line with what fashion soothsayers had predicted for this year's red carpet: violets, nude romantic, red and shiny.
1. Mila Kunis in Elle Saab
By far, my favorite dress of the night. Mila Kunis can rarely do wrong in my book but she did not disappoint in this lavender lacy feminine look that screams yes, "Spring is here." I'm sure JT was impressed by it as well. Her co-star Natalie Portman's Rodarte dress was also note-worthy and stayed in the purple family as well.
2. Halle Berry in Marchesa
It is not the Oscars without PR having a favorite Marchesa dress. This nude number was joined by other dresses in the same family like True Grit's young actress Hailee Steinfeld.
3. Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang
The web was abuzz with Anne Hathaway's Valentino dress as her red carpet look (before her multiple dresses of the evening). However, I much preferred Miss B's simple silhouette as the best red dress of the night.
4. Gwenyth Paltrow in Calvin Klein
Probably my most controversial pick of the list, but I'm sticking with it. It was stunning the minute I saw the fashionista on tv. Maybe I was just mesmerized by the shininess. A number of other starlets went for the sparkly look including Aishwarya Rai in Giorgio Armani Prive.
What was your favorite dress?

man, you're fast. I haven't even had my coffee yet. I only caught the last hour and a half...i really liked the metallics i saw. particularly halle berry and hilary swank. I also liked the one anne hathaway wore right before introducing Oprah Winfrey.. and anne hathaway always looks stunning in red and pulls off the perfect red lipstick to match.

At least the fashion was interesting, since the show was a bust. Poor Anne and James. http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/02/28/oscars-the-bomb-heard-round-the-internet/?hpt=C1
