"There is a thin line between love and hate and that line, my friend, is a scarf."-Friends
scarf (noun) a piece of fabric worn on or near the head or around the neck for warmth, cleanliness, fashion or for religious reasons.
Reasons to keep a scarf handy:
Number 28: Aid in impromptu magic tricks
Number 189: As a means to gather up your belongings, attach to a stick and carry over shoulder when running away from home (a la Bugs Bunny)
Number 45: To conceal your neck from a potential vampire
Number 62: Something to climb down with if you have to jump out of a building
Number 1: Make a statement
I'll take reason number one. But, make a statement with a scarf, you say? Mais oui! This summer has been marked with tanks accented with scarves and the trend is sure to continue into fall. Enter Sir Alistair Rai. The collection of beautiful scarves have quickly gained in popularity around fashionistas' necks and has a large celebrity following. A friend spotted Rachel Bilson in People StyleWatch wearing the Summer Love Dupattaa and it instantly caught our eye. This black scarf (pictured above top left) is hand painted by Indian artisans with a Hindu/Buddhist prayer. Other colorful finds from the line are the Sammi floral pashmina (top right) and the red Freedom Hindu Prayer Wrap. Proceeds from sales of the red wrap go the American Indian Foundation which awards grants to projects in India related to AIDS, women's empowerment and education.
The creator of Sir Alistair Rai, Kiran Rai, started the line in 2006. She draws inspiration from her Indian heritage and the result is a hit. Along with Bilson, other celebs seen wearing these fashionable scarves are Drew Barrymore and Jessica Alba. And no boys, you are not missing out. The neutral colored pieces (like the Logo Dupattaa, a best seller, pictured bottom right) can be quite masculine. In fact, Matthew McConaughey was photographed donning one of the wraps. The Sir Alistair Rai collection also includes mens and women's clothing. Some gems from the line that really popped out include the Spring Jaipur dress and the sleeveless Bollywood tunic.
