oh my blog: the everygirl wedding week

As many of you know, a little over a year and a half ago, I tied the knot with the love of my life, my mister. Much like Pink Rickshaw, our wedding celebration was a little bit east and a little bit west. We had a traditional Indian wedding  but infused it with plenty of personal and fun touches that made it such an amazing couple of days. 

I am so honored that one of my absolute favorite new sites, The Everygirl is featuring our wedding as part of their fabulous Wedding Week. Here are some of my favorite pictures from their feature and a few extras. You can read the whole feature here. trend: high-low skirts

This trend seems to have more names than there are actual skirts available for purchase: the fishtail skirt, the high-low skirt, the waterfall skirt, the asymmetrical skirt, the diagonal skirt, the fake maxi skirt and everyone's favorite nickname: the mullet skirt. Seriously, any trend that has the word mullet in it, is worth discussion. So, get all your "party in the front, business in the back" jokes in while this skirt is on-trend this Spring. If you can get over the Billy Ray Cyrus images (pre-Hannah Montana..sadly there is whole generation that has no clue Hannah's Dad used to have terrible hair), the trend is actually very figure flattering and is both flirty, elegant and as seen on Ri Ri (left) can be edgy. Also, ladies if you are vertically challenged and have never been able to wear maxi skirts , this may be your alternative. Paired with a basic top and strappy heels or sandals, and you are pretty much set for a no-fuss look. However, in an attempt to be fair and balanced, I must report that the mullet skirt debate is a hot one with passionate arguments for and against the trend. Some are calling it far from fashion and more of a (gasp!) fashion massacre. 

The good news is there are plenty of  budget friendly options if you want to just dip your toe in the mullet hemline pool. (Also, if you are just not feeling the skirts, the asymmetrical hem is also popular with tanks as seen here)

weeknight meal

RW and I often like to trade horrible weeknight meal stories. She tells me about her Tuesday night Taco Bueno run and I top it with a tale of two-day-old Chinese take-out. Her Monday night PB&J sandwiches are met with my cup o' noodles. And then occasionally, we surprise each other when we share that rare Wednesday night crock pot Thai curry tale or homemade pizza night. But for the most part, we are testament to the fact that when you are even the slightest bit busy, weeknight meals are generally in the pathetic category. That is why we were both super excited to get our hands on Giada De Laurentiis' latest book, Weeknights with Giada. Giada, you could not have found two people who need your help more. That is probably what we should have said to her when we met our favorite celebrity chef at a recent book signing for her latest release. Instead we were just starstruck and wanted to tell her she was pretty.

I will admit, I was a little skeptical at how "quick and easy" the recipes in this book would be. Giada recipes tend to be a bit tedious especially for a novice cook like myself. But if you are a fan, you will notice she is true to her word, and features some of her easier dishes from her shows. The first weeknight meal I tried from the collection was the delicious and (fairly) healthy whole-grain spaghetti with brussels sprouts and mushrooms.

If you are a brussels sprouts lover (like me), there is no doubt, you will love this easy vegetarian pasta (Non-vegetarians, you will want to give this hearty meal a try as well). And honestly, even if you are not a huge fan of brussels sprouts, the creamy creme fraiche sauce makes you forget you are getting your Vitamin K and whole grain fix. The aromatic Pecorino Romano cheese adds an unexpected touch and the toasted almonds add just the right amount of crunch. Start to finish, we were eating in less than 35 minutes. A Taco Bueno run probably would have still been faster, but Giada/RW, we're making some progress.
