"There is no sincerer love than the love of food."-George Bernard Shaw
Historians say that the earliest known recipe dates back to a tablet from 1600 B.C. in ancient Babylonia. Interestingly, some 3600 years later, we are still using tablets (albeit more expensive ones) to keep track of our modern, gluten-free, vegan, Paleo friendly recipes. I'm sure if our ancestors knew they would be both proud and probably slightly annoyed.
Technology has definitely been my saving grace in trying new techniques in the kitchen along with finding new recipes but keeping track of recipes is a different story. I recently surveyed the extent of my disorganization when it comes to recipes: some were printed out on 4x6 index cards from my great "organize my life" plan of 2008, many are here on Pink Rickshaw and some are randomly saved on various folders on my desktop and food sites. To the rescue, just in time for the holidays, is a popular site that is easy to use for consolidating my recipe chaos: foodie.com. I recently started a collection on the site of some of my favorite recipes from Pink Rickshaw which you can see above and here and am excited to start collecting some new soup and dessert recipes to make this holiday season. The foodie.com site is part social network for food enthusiasts with the ease and prettiness of Pinterest and part recipe box. Browse my collection and others or start your own as you get ready for all that holiday cooking and baking.
